“Painting became my space to disconnect from the noise of daily life — and immerse myself fully in self-expression.”

From beauty to canvas

Hi, my name is Kerieen Deodutt Lucas. I am 39 years old, a mother of two, and an artist with a lifelong passion for creativity. My artistic journey began in 2003, after matriculating and enrolling at the prestigious Jill Farquharson College, where I studied aesthetics.

As part of my training, I explored nail art and makeup, which allowed me to combine precision with imagination. I soon discovered a special talent for hand-painted nail art and went on to run a successful business. My love of teaching and sharing knowledge later inspired me to open my own beauty college, where I trained aspiring professionals for several years before choosing to focus on family life and my business.

The spark

My love for fine art was sparked the first time I saw the works of Vincent van Gogh. His bold use of the palette knife and thick expressive brush strokes resonated deeply with me. That inspiration stayed with me, and three years ago I formally joined the art group of Carlart Studio, to begin painting on a regular basis.

Art as freedom

Painting quickly became more than just a hobby — it became my space to disconnect from the noise of daily life and immerse myself fully in self-expression. With my amazing husband Devan Lucas, our two wonderful children, all the busyness of school activities and family life, my time in the studio is both grounding and liberating.

My favorite subjects to paint are inspired by my Hindu heritage, especially deities. Through these works, I find both spiritual connection and artistic freedom, bringing together my cultural identity and my creative spirit.

The journey continues

This exhibition is a reflection of my journey — from beauty, modeling, design and teaching, to discovering the meditative and transformative power of painting. I am honored to share my work and grateful for the opportunity to let you step into my world through my art.

Behind the canvas

The artist,
unfiltered.

A studio should feel human. These moments bring the person behind the paintings into the same visual world as the work itself.
